Soup & Thread This Summer

IMG_1021 3

At last: it’s the summer schedule for Soup & Thread!

It took a while to get sorted, but we’re thrilled to announce that Soup & Thread is hitting the great outdoors this summer as part of Night Out in the Parks, with six free community sewing bees hosted by parks across the city. All of our NOITP events will be in concert with other programming: come for the stitchin’ and stay for Summerdance, or a movie, or some circus!

We’ll also be representing at Sundays on State this June and July, sharing space with our friends from the Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange. All of our events are free and family friendly and no sewing experience is required! Come stitch yourself into the fabric of our community at one or all of these upcoming activities.

  • Sunday, June 16: Sundays on State, State St. between Adams and Lake in the Loop
  • Wednesday, July 10: 5:30-7:30 pm with CCRX at LaFollette Park, 1333 N. Laramie in Austin
  • Friday, July 12: 6-7:30 pm before the screening of Madame Webb at Fernwood Park, 10426 S. Wallace in Washington Heights
  • Sunday, July 14: Sundays on State, State St. between Adams and Lake in the Loop
  • Wednesday, July 31: 4:30-6:30 pm before Summerdance at Calumet Park, 9801 S. Avenue G in East Side
  • Tuesday, August 6: 5-6:30 pm  before the La Vuelta performance in Humboldt Park (at the boathouse), 1301 N. Humboldt Drive
  • Wednesday, August 21: 4-6 pm before the Opera-Matic performance at Kennicott Park, 4434 S. Lake Park Ave. in Oakland
  • Saturday, September 14: 2-3 pm before Three Clowns Enjoying a Picnic at Unity Park, 2636 N. Kimball in Logan Square
We’ve got still more plans bubbling for the fall, both indoors and out, so watch this space for more coming soon — and in the meantime, come see us in the parks and on the streets!

Soup & Thread is presented as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series, supported by the Mayor’s Office and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. The Night Out in the Parks program presents cultural events year-round in neighborhood parks throughout the city. The Chicago Park District in partnership with 100 local artists and organizations, presents engaging events and performances that enhance quality of life across Chicago and amplify the artistic and cultural vibrancy in every neighborhood. Through multiple disciplines, which include theater, music, movies, dance, site-specific work, nature programs, and community festivals, the series aims to support Chicago-based artists, facilitate community-based partnerships and programs, cultivate civic engagement, and ensure equity in access to the arts for all Chicagoans.
