I’ve no idea who wrote this on the wall in the Hideout bathroom, but, well, if the graffiti fits.
Here’s a quick little reminder that Soup & Bread starts up again next week. Cooks for our inaugural night of soup and sanctuary are Sarah Dandelles, Gary Solomon, Cyndi Fecher, Linor Vaknin, Beth and Jody Osmund of Cedar Valley Sustainable Farm, Keith Carlson from Dia de Los Tamales and, keeping it in the neighborhood, both Chef Joanna Stachon from Ada Street and our friends across the alley at Local Foods. Once again we’ll have bread donated by Publican Quality Bread; our guest DJs are Gwen and Jeremy Lemos.
Soup & Bread’s featured food pantry this week is one of our regulars, Casa Catalina, in Back of the Yards. Here’s a report from a visit we made there a few years back. We’re overdue for another visit with Sr. Joellen, and will try to remedy that in the cold days ahead.
In the meantime, remember: there’s till time to make a tax-deductible donation to Soup & Bread before the end of the year. Every little bit helps us cover our operating expenses, and enriches the pot for the pantries we serve. If you give $25 or more, we’ll even send you a surprise gift pack in the mail.
We hope to see you January 4 at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, between 5:30 and 8 pm. Until then, have a peaceful and happy new year!
PS: We still need cooks for February and March! Contact martha at soupandbread.net for more.
