Soup & Bread wraps, with pie

It’s that time of year. The sun is … out? The daffodils are … threatening an appearance. And Soup & Bread is winding down for the winter. We’ve got just two weeks left before the crock pots go back into storage and we start looking for the bingo cards.

Coming up April 9 we’ve got a slate of soups on the theme “Tastes Like Chicken,” from guest cooks Jill Barron, of Mana Food Bar, along with Hideout sound guy Kenny Rasmussen, Sarah Schroeder-Lebeq, Brian Nemtusak, Bonnie Tawse, and Niall Munnelly. Our DJ that night is Perry Kim, and donations benefit the Night Ministry.

Then, on April 16, we wrap up the 2014 soup season with the now-traditional night of Soup & Bread & Pie (theme: “The Fields”). In addition to soups from Bread & Wine and Pizza Rustica, along with Elise Martel Cohen, Amelie DeLoach, Cherie Hansen, Central Pickling‘s Ethan Fischer & Robyn Mericle and their friends Patrick Laflamme & Laura Piskor and Christa Andrepont & Elizabeth Newkirk,  we’ll have pie and other treats for sale, donated by a host of generous bakers (including just quite very possibly the stupendous Millicent Souris). All bake sale proceeds go to offset the operating expenses of Soup & Bread.

On top of all that, if you can imagine, we’ll have pie of the pizza format, donated by our pals at Piece. And as ever, of course, we’ll have bread from Publican Quality Meats. Our guest DJ is the lovely Kim Soss, and all pay-what-you-can-donations benefit the Northwestern Settlement House food pantry.

And then, that’s it! Spring has spring and we’re done! For now at least. We hope to see you on one of these fantastic nights.
