Soup and Bread

Soup & Bread Tour 2011 (and beyond?)

If anyone were looking to score a load of gently used Crock-Pots, today would be a good day to steal my car.

That’s right: Six crocks, 8 ladles, 1000 compostable spoons, and three boxes of books WILL fit in the back of a Subaru. I just hope Sheila doesn’t mind wearing the same dress for the next week, because there’s not a lot of room left for our luggage. I should have bought the roof rack ….

Anyway. We leave town Monday morning for points east. Our full schedule for the next two months is on the calendar at left, but here it is as well, with handy links. If you’re in the neighborhood, come say hi!

Our Itinerary:

Weds., Nov. 16: We kick off the tour with Soup & Bread: Philadelphia at Kung Fu Necktie, to benefit the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger

Thurs., Nov. 17: The next day we shoot up the turnpike to NYC, for Soup & Bread: Brooklyn at Littlefield, to benefit the New York City Coalition Against Hunger.

Sat., Nov. 19: We’ll still be in NYC, sleeping, seeing horribly neglected friends, and checking out the Occupy Big Food protest — but our Chicago sales squad will be on site at the West Walker Holiday Fair in the Irving Park Lutheran Church gym. Go, buy cookbooks, and eat pancakes from Tre Kronor!

Mon., Nov. 21: I’m live on Cathy Erway‘s Heritage Radio Network show, Let’s Eat In. Tune in and listen to us eat pizza and talk soup! Cathy is smart, and great, and basically my role model for how to take a random idea and turn it into a career. I hear she also dispenses dating advice. I’ll take that as well.

Tues., Nov. 22: On our way back to Chicago we’ll stop in at MindFair Books in beautiful Oberlin, Ohio, town of the future. No soup at this event, just books and a casual afternoon conversation.

Tues., Nov. 29: Book signing at 6 pm (?) at Green Grocer Chicago, my favorite grocery store in town, and not just because it’s three blocks from home.

Weds., Nov. 30: Rested and full of pumpkin pie, we hop back in the car and head north for Soup & Bread: Madison,  at the High Noon Saloon, to benefit the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin

Thurs., Dec. 1:  We pop over to the lake for Soup & Bread: Milwaukee at the Sugar Maple, to benefit the Bay View Community Center

Sat.-Sun., Dec. 3-4:  We’re back in Chicago at our favorite spot, outside the women’s bathroom at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, for the Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market. In addition to cookbooks we’ll have aprons, prints, and recipe cards and boxes for sale.

Weds. Dec. 6: OK this is still coming together but lets put it on the schedule anyway. We are going to NASHVILLE! Soup & Bread: Nashville  Details to come.  from 6-9 PM at Yazoo Brewing Co., 910 Division St, to benefit the Martha O’Bryan Center.

Tues., Dec.13: The first of two nights back in our living room, for the Hideout Holiday Sale. One-stop holiday shopping, with drinks. What could be better?

Wed. Dec. 14: Everybody back in the car! We’re heading to the Motor City, for Soup & Bread: Detroit. Or, really, Ferndale. (Details, details.) We’ll be at the Loving Touch pool hall (adjacent to Woodward Avenue Brewers), with all proceeds going to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank.

Tues., Dec. 20: Back home again for the second night of the Hideout Holiday  Sale and some holiday cheer.

2012: Seattle? Los Angeles? Who knows?!? Do you want to help us stage a Soup & Bread night in your town? Get in touch at soupnbread10@gmail.com.
