Soup and Bread

Soup & Bread 2016: January 20

IMG_7627

OK! Less nutsy turnout on January 13 than for our kickoff — for which we are both relieved and yet also wistful, because, well, if you didn’t come you missed out on some amazing soups from a slate of seven great cooks. We will post the recipes soon so you can play along at home.

We also raised $372 for the great people at Benton House. We learned last night that they’ve seen some hard times the last few months, with unexpected expenses and building maintenance and whatnot We are glad to know that they are staying the course, and that this small donation might help keep the lights on.

Coming up next week! Our cooks include five from Slow Food Chicago:

Beth Vercolio-Osmund ( Cedar Valley Sustainable Farm CSA)
Cortney Ahern
Laurell Sims
Katie Johnson
Heidi Hedeker

Plus returning cook John McKevitt (bringing, we hope, his amazing Kewaunee Inn Cheddar and Beer Soup) and our stalwart neighbors at Local Foods.

Bread is donated by the wonderful bakers at Publican Quality Bread; and our DJ is Kenn Goodman. Kids (with parent or guardian) are welcome!

Each week we partner with a different food pantry–this first week’s pay-what-you-can donations benefit the Community Dinners program based at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Logan Square. Join us! And if you can’t come in person, don’t forget that you can now make a tax-deductible donation to Soup & Bread via that button over there on the left.

Thanks, and see you next week.
