The thermometer taunts you, darkness descends at 4. Around every corner, salt trucks lurk at the ready. Wouldn’t it be nice to spend a little time with a piping hot pot of soup?
Well, you’re in luck. The 2014 season of Soup & Bread: Chicago kicks off January 8 at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, and runs every Wednesday, 5:30-8 pm through April 16. That’s 15 weeks of soup to be served up for the slurping — and that means we need cooks! Our themed soup nights were such a hit last year that we’re bringing them back, spit-shined and possibly stranger than before. Check the schedule below to see what you’re getting yourself into.
As ever, we will be asking for a pay-what-you-can donation at the door; all proceeds from Soup & Bread are donated to a different food pantry or hunger relief organization each week. We have a few open dates still, so if you have a group you’d like us to consider as a beneficiary, please get in touch. In the wake of November 1 cuts to the food stamp program — and with the threat of up to $40 billion more in cuts on the horizon — need is greater than ever this year. If you want more information on hunger in Chicago, this is a good place to start.
