[Ed: Who are the Godlewskis? I haven’t a clue. But this was one great, weird, satisfying soup. It’s surprisingly sweet, but not overmuch, and a riot of distinct but complementary flavors.]
Ingredients
1 large onion, chopped 1/2 small head cabbage, cored & sliced 2 medium carrots in 1/2″ slices 10 ounces smoked polish sausage, 1/2″ slices 1 can (28 ounces) whole tomatoes in puree 1/3 cup packed brown sugar 4 cups chicken stock 1/2 teaspoon each: allspice, paprika salt & pepper to taste small potato, diced cider vinegar to taste (add near end of cooking time)Preparation
Cook the onion for a few minutes in olive oil. Add the cabbage and carrots, and again cook for a few more minutes. Toss in the sausage, let it cook some, then add everything else. Simmer until the potato is tender. Add a splash of vinegar near the end.
