This time last year the Hideout and Soup & Bread were gearing up for another cozy winter of delicious soup and community in the back room of your favorite bar. We were lining up cooks and DJs, hitting up our pals at Publican for bread and getting in touch with our friends at local food pantries to see how we could help them best. But not this year! Hahahahaha …. sob.
But we’ve all lost so much, we don’t want to sit around being sad about one more thing. So, in lieu of Soup & Bread this winter we’re bringing you REC ROOM: thirteen weeks of community programming designed to bring a little fun into the coming dark nights at home and foster, however virtually, that connection we seek. Join us every Wednesday from 7-8pm (unless otherwise indicated!) for trivia nights, show and tells, spelling bees, and a grab bag of other entertainments still in the works. We’re kicking it all off on January 6 on Zoom with a night of Chicago Music Trivia hosted by writer and educator Paul Durica, creator of the Pocket Guide to Hell series of public history programs, and Soup & Bread founder Martha Bayne, with special guest Chicago Reader music critic Leor Galil, and the song stylings of our house band, Mr. and Mrs. Wednesday Night. Join us and win big!
Full schedule in progress follows below. Most, but not all, events are pay-what-you-can, with donations going as ever to local food pantries. RSVP for Jan. 6 Trivia here; register for Jan. 20 Inauguration Celebration here. All shows viewable via the Hideout’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
